Objective: To determine the economic impact of the use of pharmaceutical products compared to the use of traditional medicine in time of COVID-19 in the city of Arequipa-2020.
Material and method: The study is of a mixed approach, it is retrospective, observational, descriptive and cross-sectional, the study population is 180 between men and women positive to the molecular or rapid COVID-19 test in the city of Arequipa, the instrument used for data collection was the questionnaire, which is made up of 26 items encompassed by 2 dimensions.
Results: The analyzes indicate that the economic impact compared to the use of pharmaceutical products, generated a high economic expense with 47.8% for treatment per person in more severe cases and a lower index that represents that there was no influence on its economy with 22.2 % in treatment for mild cases, in the variable of the use of traditional medicine it is stated that 46.1% if they used traditional medicine to alleviate the recovery process, on the other hand there is a small group of 12.2% that states that they have no interest in this group alternative.
Conclusions: It is concluded that the treatment with pharmaceutical products supposes a high economic expense for each individual in time of COVID-19, the respondents state that they used an alternative group such as medicinal plants as a preventive and even treatment for the symptoms of COVID-19 by be more accessible and affordable and it does not affect your economy.
