Abstract
Objective: to analyse the level of compliance with the Surgical Safety Checklist among nursing staff working in the operating theatre of Clínica Delgado during 2026. Materials and methods: this quantitative, basic research study will adopt a descriptive scope and a non-experimental, cross-sectional design. The participants will comprise 34 nursing professionals working in the operating theatre; given the size and accessibility of the population, all individuals who meet the established eligibility criteria will be included. Data will be collected through direct observation using a structured 24-item guide organised into the
Sign In, Time Out and Sign Out phases. Content validity will be assessed by three experts, while reliability will be examined through a pilot test involving a group with characteristics similar to those of the study population. The data will be organised in Microsoft Excel and subsequently processed using SPSS. Descriptive statistics will be applied, with frequencies and percentages used to summarise the findings. Results: the study is expected to identify the overall level of compliance with the Surgical Safety Checklist and its pattern across the three phases. Conclusions: the findings will provide up-to-date information on checklist implementation by nursing staff and help identify aspects of safety practice that may require strengthening during surgical care.
